Jason went to York University and acquired a BFA (honours) in Visual Art. In 1999, Jason received a scholarship for one term to the University of Northumbria exchange program. Jason restarted his professional practice in 2018. His current work explores the patriarchy, masculinity and mental health.

Q+A

Why is it important for people to have art in their home or life?

Looking at art is good for your mental health. It brings you into the moment and can be contemplative and calming.

Only thing you need when you leave the house

A camera

Your favourite spot in Toronto right now

The Humber River never disappoints. There is always life to find there.

Coffees per day and from where

Too many, usually from my stovetop espresso.

What artists do you admire right now?

I have a group of artists I met through a Toronto School of Art Class with Iris Haussler. We take turns talking about our art and giving each other feedback and it's amazing seeing their work progress - Sandrine Dickel, Julia Pal, Geoffrey Chung. I always admire the work of my partner Amada Estabillo, my biggest supporter and critic.

Why is art important to you?

Art is life! Other than love, what else is there?
